The number one complaint I hear from people on why they don't use coupons is that they just don't have time. I have wanted to do this math for a while to prove that it takes almost NO time to save money. Since my husband was off today, I was able to go to the grocery without kids but finding the coupons, looking at ads, and figuring out what I was going to buy was done while they were asleep.
1:30pm - 2:30pm: Quick check of what we have already, look at store ads online (Walgreens, Target, CVS, and Publix), go to Coupon Cravings, Fiddledeedee!, and Southern Savers to check coupon match ups for coupons I may already have or be able to get online. I don't make an actual list but I do jot down notes for each store of what I want to look at or things that are on sale that I might not have a coupon to match.
2:30pm - 4:00pm: CVS - spent $6.13, saved $14.78, got $2 Extra Care Bucks to use on my next trip. Target - spent $30.83, saved $35.60, got $15 in gift cards back to use on my next trip. Publix - spent $63.64, saved $42.59.

Save Money on Cleaning Products
Allyou.com has created a list of 30 money saving tips. I knew vinegar and baking soda could be used to clean around the house but I had no idea you could use coffee grinds, mouthwash, lemon Kool Aid, or bread as cleaning products! I also love the idea of putting newspaper at the bottom of the trashcan to soak up spills and odors. I will be doing that as soon as I take out the trash!

Holiday Weekend = No coupons
If you buy your Sunday paper each week for the coupons, make sure you save your money this Sunday. Since Memorial Day is Monday, there are not going to be any coupon inserts in the Sunday newspaper. This would be a good week to go through all the coupons you have and toss out any that are expired.

How to Vacation for Less
Before you make your summer vacation plans, read 101 Ways to Save Money's great tips. My husband and I booked our first cruise recently and we saved about $300 because we are going in September instead of during summer vacation. To save another $40/person, book an inside room because they are really only for sleeping anyway! We have also used hotwire.com for hotel reservations and got a room a mile off the beach in Naples, FL for $30 a night. Vacations don't have to be expensive to be fun!

Free Phone Call from Disney Characters
For those of you who use Pull-Ups, you have probably seen the code for a phone call from either Woody from Toy Story or Princess Tiana from The Princess and the Frog. You can go here to set up the call. Use code BIGKID to "unlock" the phone call, as well as printable coloring sheets. Parents get to choose the day, time, and occasion of the phone call. One great idea I have heard is to put the phone on speaker phone and videotape it so you can email the video to grandparents or post it online. If your child loves these characters, this could be a great experience for the whole family!
Thanks, FP!

Coupon Class
If you are located in Central Florida and are interested in attending one of my (soon to be) monthly coupon classes, please email me at momlovesdeals@gmail.com and I'll tell you when and where it will be. The next one is June 12th.
Also, if you are in a local group, organizations, or just have friends you think would love to learn, I am more than happy to teach a private class (10-20 at a time.) It works much better (and you learn more) if it's a kid-free class so keep that in mind.
As of right now, I do this for free!

Better Homes and Garden = Anti Public Breastfeeding
To all my mommy (and daddy) friends:
Please read this blog entry from The Eco-Cheap Mom. While I never went to a 5-star restaurant while I was breastfeeding either of my two boys, I did breastfeed in public if needed. I see no reason why there is such a huge controversy over this. Better Homes and Garden recently allowed an article to be published on their blog which was (dispute the author's "disclaimer") very anti-kid. I don't know if publishing the article was a slip up on their part or if the magazine as a whole shares the writer's opinion, but either way, I sent an email because it's disturbing that they are publicly asking mothers to breastfeed in the BATHROOM or just stay home!

Know the Coupon Policy
I was blessed with the opportunity to go grocery shopping by myself this afternoon. I went to Publix and Target armed with my coupons. Now, I have been using coupons at Publix for about a year and I always go to the same store so I KNOW their policy as well as many of their cashiers and managers. I want to make sure I am doing everything by the book so I ask alot of questions if I am unsure about something.
So, this afternoon I was able to take my time and shop for things I wouldn't normally buy if I had two bored kids with me. I had two coupons for Cover Girl makeup. One was "buy any cover girl face product, get one free" and the other was "$2 off any Cover Girl product." I KNEW I could them both as long as I bought two items. I needed more face powder so I got two, which were $5.99 each. Well, the cashier, who I have never seen before, started off my transaction irritated about my coupons. After asking most of the cashiers at that location, I know that the consensus is that they want me to give them coupons in three piles: free items (including BOGO), store coupons, and manufacturer coupons. So, I arranged my coupons in that order as she was scanning and handed her the piles on at a time. When she got to the $2 off manufacturer coupon for my Cover Girl stuff, she said I couldn't use it because I already used the BOGO coupon. I said I was allowed to because I was buying one of the items. She said she didn't care what I thought, she would not scan it and gave it back. I may not have been as nice to her as I could after she said that but I told her I'd just take it to customer service and get my $2 from them. She said, "Go ahead and try." So, I said I would.
At customer service, the clerk said he was pretty sure I was right but wanted to double check. He came back and said, yes, they owed me $2. I told him the cashier was rude and didn't even bother to ask anyone to see if she could accept both. He said he'd let the manager know and she'd inform the cashier that what I was doing was perfectly fine. In the end, I got two Cover Girl products (which would have been $12) for $4. I think the extra few minutes was worth the savings.
The bottom line is know the policy because cashiers are not always right. I knew without a doubt I was right and I had the confidence to make sure I saved as much as I possibly could.
Please review Coupon Etiquette, too. I guess I still need more practice being nice when cashiers aren't nice to me.

Kylee's Kids
On March 17, 2010, Kylee Kingery died of a stroke. She was 8 months pregnant and baby Caleb was born via C-section. She had three other kids and her husband is now raising these four beautiful kids alone. This is why Kylee's Kids was created. A friend of the family will be competing in a triathlon in November and his goal is to raise $5,000 by race day for the family for Christmas. If we get the word out, I have no doubt that we can help meet that goal to help this wonderful family create new traditions this Christmas. Thank you!

Deal of the Day Websites
I wanted to tell you about five websites all moms (or anyone who shops for kids) should know about. All of these websites list one deal a day and only sell that one item each day. When the item is gone, the deal is over and you can come back the next day to see a new deal.
- Baby Steals - They also have a great blog where they give away lots of baby stuff.
- Kid Steals - These deals go FAST!
- Kids Woot - You can visit woot.com and woot sellout for grown up toys. They limit you to 3 items per day but it's $5 shipping regardless if you buy 1 or 3.
- Target Daily Deals - They have more than just baby or kids stuff.
- bTrendie - They have shopping "events," usually 3 or 4 at a time, that last 2-3 days. You do have to become a member to see the events.

Soft Scrub Total Kitchen
Some of you may remember the post I did about Soft Scrub Total Bathroom I did a few months ago. Well, now I want to tell you about Soft Scrub Total Kitchen! It has all the features of the bathroom version, my favorite being that it has a fancy little screen you can flip to turn the spray into a foam for really nasty messes. You can literally use this from floor to ceiling in your kitchen. Microwave, stove, tile, cabinets, and countertops...they will all get so clean with this. We have faux granite countertops and lots of products, including organic or all natural cleaners, leave streaks. Soft Scrub Total is the ONLY cleaner I've used which doesn't do that. It highly recommend the Soft Scrub Total line.
Join the Soft Scrub Club for coupons so you can try it out for yourself!

Cover Girl Review
I got lip gloss pictured above and I love it! It's incredibly smooth, not too shiny or pink, and it lasts a long time. The ShineSculpt applicator is one of the reasons this is different than any other lip gloss. It hugs the lips so the gloss is right where you want it. Shine Blast lip gloss comes in 16 shades and is by far, my new favorite lip gloss.
I was also sent the Smoky Shadow Blast in Citrus Flair (the green/rust combo.) This product makes the smoky eye look super easy to recreate. It took me about 30 seconds per eye and I was done. It's fool proof. It comes in 6 color combinations.
While the concept is great, I think this eye shadow combo needs more time in the testing stage. About 20 seconds after I put it on (and after I got one picture), my eyes started burning and tearing up so bad, I had to wash my face and rinse my eyes. I doubt this is a common reaction but for me, it did not work. I followed the application instructions exactly and, as I said, I wear makeup every day. I was really excited about this eye shadow so I was disappointed in the results.
Overall, I think Cover Girl has created a simple, every day solution to perfect makeup with the Blast Collection. You can go to covergirl.com/blast to discover your favorite color combinations.
Disclosure: I was sent these products by BzzAgent on behalf of CoverGirl to review and share my opinion.

God and Money
One thing I have learned is the journey from struggling financially to being settled is never complete. This is especially true when your income is not as stable as you'd like it. For me, a planning type A organized person, this journey looks alot like God and I standing on a seemingly unstable bridge above a huge chasm. I always start out on the opposite side of the bridge as God and He quietly and calmly asks me to walk across the bridge to meet Him. As I kick and scream and cry until my body is dehydrated, He stands firm. My begging prayers sound alot like the whiney gimme gimme's of a preschooler. "If you give us a steady income, we will use it wisely." "I have learned so much about money management but I can't put in to practice unless you help us." "My kids need to eat and we need a place to live. Don't you love us?" "How can I teach people to save money if we are struggling so much to pay our bills?" I don't budge from my place on solid ground and God never stops asking me calmly to step out onto the bridge. This fight (it's really just me fighting with God) can last for months. The last time we went through this, it was about 6 months of tears and anger before I finally stood up, wiped my tears, and started to walk across the bridge to meet God. Within one month, our family was feeling the relief.
And my God will meet all your needs according to His glorious riches in Christ Jesus. - Philippians 4:19
My mom always used to say, "If you can't be trusted with a paper clip, why would God give you a stapler?" For us, I think money management was the paper clip. It was a very small skill that we never learned and struggled to understand. We have that paper clip in our hands. But God wants His people to continue to strive to be better. There is never just one bridge and the trek is over. I relate very well to God as our Father since I am a parent. If my kids learn the lesson of sharing, I reward them but I still want them to learn to be giving, compassionate, kind, gracious, and thankful. Once they master sharing, they are not adults. They are just kids who know how to share. We are not done with our trek. We just know how to manage our money.
All the plans He's made for me, I have to wait and see. He's not finished with me yet. - Brandon Heath
So now, I am again standing at the foot of a bridge. God wants to give me a stapler and he wants me to show Him my paper clip skills. I caught myself this morning starting to fight with God again. I spent the morning crying, writing angry notes to God, and complaining. Bridges are scary. I am so good with the paper clip and I'm not sure I'm ready to trade it in for a a stapler. I was happy with where we were. I felt good about how far we'd come. I don't particularly want to learn something new. Walking across that bridge means my hands will blister from holding on to the ledges, my feet will hurt from the long walk, my body will ache from the heat of the sun, and I will be mentally exhausted as I keep looking up to God for reassurance that He won't let me fall. I know once I cross this bridge, God will ask more of me. The next bridge will hurt just as much and I'm tired of the struggle. I'm tired of the pain.
Worrying is carrying tomorrow's load with today's strength - carrying two days at once. It is moving into tomorrow ahead of time. Worrying doesn't empty tomorrow of its sorrow, it empties today of its strength. - Corrie Ten Boom
If I say I trust God yet whine when He wants to shape me into the woman He created me to be, I am a liar. In reality, I am not happy with myself. I am not ok staying in one place. I know God has great plans for me. I will not let this fight last 6 months. I will not let it last 6 days. I will walk across that bridge and I will keep looking to God because I know He wants me to come to Him. It's ok to nag God and tell Him how much it hurts. Even Jesus asked Him to "take this cup from me" (Luke 22:42) but Jesus still died a long painful death. I am not being asked to die on a cross for the sins of the world. I am being asked to learn to make the words of my mouth be truth and really love each step of the journey. There are great rewards. Each time I cross that bridge, God holds me tight as we rejoice in my success. He never leaves me. He is always one step ahead of me because He wants me to follow Him to a much more beautiful place.
Dear friends, do not be surprised at the painful trial you are suffering, as though something strange were happening to you. But rejoice that you participate in the sufferings of Christ, so that you may be overjoyed when his glory is revealed. 1 Peter 4: 12-13
